ITAD for Nonprofits: Donate, Deduct, and Destroy Data Securely

EWaste Phoenix helps Phoenix-area nonprofits, churches, schools, and community organizations retire IT equipment responsibly — with IRS-ready donation receipts, certified data destruction, and zero-landfill recycling.

Three Ways EWaste Phoenix Serves Nonprofits

    Donate & Deduct

If your nonprofit has IT equipment with remaining value, we can help you donate it to Arizona schools, community organizations, or other nonprofits — and provide IRS-ready documentation for your tax deduction. Under IRC Section 170, C-corporations can deduct the fair market value of donated IT equipment. We provide the written acknowledgment required for deductions of $250 or more.

    Certified Recycling

If your equipment has no remaining value, we recycle it responsibly with our zero-landfill process. Every device receives a Certificate of Recycling. No cost to qualifying nonprofit volumes.

    Secure Data Destruction

Regardless of the disposition path, every data-bearing device receives NIST 800-88 compliant data destruction before leaving your facility or ours — protecting your donors, clients, and beneficiaries from data exposure.

IT Equipment Donation Tax Deduction: What Nonprofits Need to Know (2026)

Under IRC Section 170(e)(3), C-corporations that donate IT equipment to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations can deduct the lesser of: (a) the fair market value of the donated property, or (b) twice the donor's adjusted basis in the property. For deductions of $250 or more, the IRS requires a written acknowledgment. For deductions over $500, the donor must file IRS Form 8283. For deductions over $5,000, a qualified appraisal is required.

2026 update: Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, standard deduction filers can now claim up to $1,000 ($2,000 for joint filers) in charitable deductions for 2026 and beyond — making equipment donations more valuable for more businesses.

Why Nonprofits Need Certified Data Destruction

Nonprofits handle sensitive data too — donor records, beneficiary information, volunteer data, financial records, and in some cases protected health information (PHI) or student records. A nonprofit that disposes of IT equipment without certified data destruction faces the same data breach liability as a for-profit business — including notification obligations under Arizona's data breach law (A.R.S. § 18-552).

EWaste Phoenix provides NIST 800-88 compliant data destruction for all nonprofit IT equipment, with serialized Certificates of Destruction that document every device processed. Our zero-cost service for qualifying nonprofit volumes means there is no reason to skip this step.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can a nonprofit get free IT equipment recycling in Phoenix?

Yes. EWaste Phoenix offers free pickup and recycling for qualifying nonprofit volumes of IT equipment across the Phoenix metro area. We provide a Certificate of Recycling for your records and NIST 800-88 compliant data destruction at no charge.

What tax documentation does EWaste Phoenix provide for IT equipment donations?

EWaste Phoenix provides a written acknowledgment letter documenting the donated equipment (make, model, serial number, condition) and fair market value assessment — meeting IRS requirements for deductions of $250 or more. For deductions over $500, we provide the information needed to complete IRS Form 8283.

Is it safe to donate IT equipment to a nonprofit without destroying the data first?

No. Before donating any IT equipment, all data must be securely destroyed using NIST 800-88 compliant methods. Simply deleting files or factory resetting a device does not permanently destroy data — it can be recovered with freely available tools. EWaste Phoenix performs certified data destruction on all donated equipment before it is transferred to the recipient organization.
